In the spirit of the recession

I decide to forego the red fabric ribbon I like so much and to use the string IKEA so thoughtfully supplied with the gift tags instead.

Isn't the wrapping paper adorable though?

Happy holidays!

Eating ice cream

Nothing extraordinary about that unless you're doing so at 0400.

Pretty but also eerie

Let's play "Spot the laureates"!

Dragging myself to KI was so worth it, never mind that I only got about an hour's sleep last night (or this morning actually).

Am probably going to regret that I didn't take the opportunity to approach them, particularly Barré-Sinoussi whom I find very inspiring. However, I was both shy and wary of being intrusive and by the time I finally worked up the nerve, they were getting into the cars. Oh well...

Here we go!

How bad is it that I didn't attend any lectures this week, but I managed to make it to school for this?

Realized at around 5PM today that...

I'd forgotten to eat lunch. This sort of makes up for it.

If you love IKEA, then this is your mother ship

Am standing at the bus stop across the street from the largest IKEA store in the world. It's not part of my itinerary for today though.

Horoscope for the day = perfect excuse

"Don't exercise too much, you'll get sick."

Love it!

Haven't eaten these in a while

Now I can't stop. Help!

McDonald's Chicken Wrap

Thumbs down for the sour sauce.

Dora The Explorer channels Sadako

Guess that's why it's being sold at half-price.

Something to look forward to

A Q&A session with the Nobel Laureates is one of the few things that can get me to come to school on a class-free day.

Still at McDonald's

Note the stove (for heating) to the right.

Plus, anyone up for a little alfresco dining?

Pseudo-healthful lunch

Have always wanted to "wordle"

I've indulged myself as a belated celebration of my 50th post.

Purrrty snow!

Until it melts and then freezes into slippery ice of course.

Dare one hope for a white Christmas?

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Good morning world!

Trying to start my day right for once by eating breakfast before leaving for school.

Am eating on behalf of two of my groupmates who generously volunteered to be the guinea pigs for our blood glucose experiments today and who have therefore been fasting since 10PM last night and probably won't get to eat until 1PM today. Props to them! I know I couldn't do it.

Which reminds me, I miss having breakfast at McDonald's.

The novelty of vending machines in the school library

...has yet to wear off.

Your bag is welcome inside too.

Spectrophotometers galore

They seem to be rather old, but it's great that every 4-person group has one to themselves.

[UPDATE: Have since discovered that all the other groups have newer spectrophotometers, our group just happened to draw the short end of the stick.]

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

I actually spotted some grander ones further down the road (How did I not notice them before?), but this Charlie Brownesque tree was the one that caught my eye to begin with.

Something to think about

Can teddy bears and toy horses overcome their differences and build a happy family?

The niece seems to think so.

Laptop, laptop*

*Sung to the tune of "Backpack, backpack" from Dora The Explorer.

Lookie, what finally arrived this afternoon!

Muchos thankies to Team Boch for the very generous donation to the "Save The Eina" Fund which made this possible and for lending me their computers for the past year or so.

Eating more fish is supposedly one of the keys to healthful eating

Tuna and olive pasta seemed like a step in the right direction. Wish I'd gotten something else though. There's something odd about the smell --- there's nothing wrong with the taste and none of the ingredients has gone bad or anything --- but it's just not...appetizing.

Adding insult to injury

Poor blue chair! As if it weren't enough that it doesn't match the surrounding chairs, its back and seat don't even match.

Today's accomplishment

Completed the crossword puzzle in record time (for me at least).

Redeeming value

I'm normally not a fan of this obelisk, but I've seen the light.

Pleasant surprise

OC me likes to grab a copy of every free newspaper and magazine I come across. Sometimes OC-ness pays off.

Everything you [n]ever wanted to know about the metabolic syndrome

I put together and organized the content for this diagram and one of my groupmates (with some help from the rest of the group) made it big and purrrty.

By George, I think that's what they call teamwork! The Wonder Pets would be proud.

Science fair about obesity

Our group's topic is the metabolic syndrome.

The Birds III: Huddinge

Freaky! Freaky!

Recorded at 17:09 today.

[In case you didn't get it, the black specks in the sky are oodles of birds.]

Metabolic pathways

After studying biochemistry for four years, I should know this by heart. Ah, if only it were so!

Spot the moon II

Am already on my way to school but the moon has yet to go bye-bye.

The class before lunch ended early

So early in fact that the school restaurant wasn't serving lunch yet and we had to wait until the clock hit 11:00.

Finished eating 45 minutes before the next class, so decided to hang out in the lecture hall which I currently have all to myself.

Does this qualify as discrimination?

They're looking for volunteers for a research project that involves doing an MRI of your brain (which I've wanted to try for awhile) while you're being asked questions. They'll pay you at least 300SEK, possibly more depending on how the study turns out.
The only thing standing in my way: you have to be right-handed.

Coca-Cola light plus green tea

Bought this almost a month ago and finally managed to muster the courage to drink it. I was pleasantly surprised. It tastes just like the regular stuff but is a tad less sweet.

These may not get my paper written

But hopefully the sugar will give my brain a boost

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Good thing

...that I didn't spot this until after I'd eaten up all my fries. Well, to be honest, it probably wouldn't have deterred me anyway.

It's time to get cracking!

Went book shopping on Friday and planned to do some heavy-duty studying over the weekend. 5 days later I've finally removed the plastic wrap that The Cell came in...progress!

Note the English-Swedish medical dictionary in the middle. While the medium of instruction is Swedish, most of the course literature will be in English. Hmm...boon or bane?

Mumsy is heading home

The brother and I are now waiting for the express train back to the city. The 22-minute wait is longer than the 20-minute trip.

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Whaaa!

We only got one extra song while they got three last night. Bummer but it was great otherwise!

Mumsy's nose begs to disagree though as the person to her left and the one in front of her both badly needed an introduction to soap, water and deo.

EDIT: Compared the playlists and apparently we got just as many songs and now I can't even tell where I got the three-extra-numbers idea from.

Still waiting for Coldplay

As a certain kid once said "It's taking forever Lowlow!"

At Globen to see Coldplay

Opening act just finished.

Finn fem fel (Find five mistakes)

Thought it was great that the school restaurant had sushi, but that was before I took a bite and discovered that the rice was hard and compact.

*Activate tourist mode *

Am now at Drottningholm Palace.

Spotted on the sidewalk this morning

Can someone please explain?

Friday, September 12, 2008

Today's classes are at the Huddinge Campus

It was a 25-minute walk from the apartment but I managed to arrive 15 minutes late just the same --- and I couldn't even blame it on the train or on traffic!

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Today's field trip

Svenska Läkaresällskapet (The Swedish Society of Medicine)

All aboard!

Now taking KI's commuter bus from the Huddinge campus to the Solna campus.
