To the handful of people that check regularly

Ha, I see you on statcounter! :p

For some reason, I can't post to the blog from my phone while in the Philippines, so don't expect any updates until I head back to Sweden on the 11th of August.

Until then, see you on facebook, multiply or wherever.

Hmm...

Spotted at London Heathrow Terminal 3.

Is the hot water meant to sterilize? Not likely since it wasn't hot enough.

Or do they just want to discourage people from washing their hands? As if people needed any help with that.

Question for the day

Do other airports provide resealable baggies for your liquids?

I made it!

I wasn't willing to shell out 700 Swedish crowns or so for a cab ride to the airport, so I decided to take the train instead for the low low price of 100 crowns.

The brother was so skeptical that he offered to give me cab fare, but I persevered.

However, I did get him to help me with my luggage up to the station. Later I had to change trains, but the other train was just on the other side of the same platform.

Got to the airport without a hitch. It was quite a long walk to Terminal 2 though.

All set!

"[...] my [bag is] packed, I'm ready to go [...]"

Presenting the Dimpa storage case from IKEA! Coming soon to airport conveyor belts everywhere! The fact that it's see-through will come in handy during security checks and that along with a host of other advanced features will ensure that this baggy will soon snatch the crown away from the trusty balikbayan box. You read it here first, folks!

Haaa, I kill me!

Berry goody?

The fresh berries caught my eye, but the pastries as a whole didn't seem all that appetizing. Got one of each so we could give them a try. The blueberry was surprisingly good, but the strawberry was just okay.

The funny thing is that while I was attracted by the fresh berries to begin with, the big niece wanted "the black thing" removed before she would eat.

Bought 600 Swedish crowns' worth of chocolate

Now I need to figure out how to fit everything into my suitcase.

Reward for good behavior

Self-scanned at the grocery today and was subjected to a random check. Since I was an honest little customer, they gave me a scratch card.

The checks are a hassle because you have to remove everything from the bags and then put them back in, but last time it actually worked in my favor when I almost paid for a tube of lip gloss that I'd scanned but somehow forgotten to put in my cart.

Now eating breakfast

...at the biggest IKEA een zee vorld!

Somehow the fact that I am not a morning person makes the prospect of eating out for breakfast always seem like a special treat. Go figure!

Was supposed to get the advertised 10 Swedish crown breakfast which includes 2 rolls, 4 pieces of cheese and/or ham, butter, veggies (not sure if it's always cucumber; typical that you could take as much as you wanted of the component that I didn't want any of), and coffee/tea/milk. Was kind of disappointed that it didn't come plated as advertised. [UPDATE: They have since changed the picture they use for promotion.]

Being the glutton that I am, I actually ended up paying four times as much for breakfast because of the addition of 2 pieces each of sausage and bacon, orange juice and chocolate mousse.

Et tu McDonaldus?

Purchased a Belgian Bliss Brownie from McDonald's last Saturday. Forgot about it until today and then was worried that it may have expired while sitting in my bag. I shouldn't have bothered since it apparently expired long before then. :'(

[UPDATE: Received prompt and helpful response from the store manager. Apparently, the numbers on the stickers are not dates. The first two numbers on each line are numerical codes for the days --- 04 for Thursday and 02 for Tuesday --- when the product should be placed in the display case and disposed of respectively. 09.30 is the time when these actions should be performed.]

Almost home

Polls closed at 2100 and we were done counting about an hour later. Approximately 39% of those eligible voted.

It's great that the sun is just setting so I don't have to walk home in the dark.

Yikes!

How am I going to finish this?

Election gig update

The place hasn't exactly been hopping. Only 8 people voted during the first hour.

Before my lunch break, we sorted the votes that were cast in advance. The way voting works here is you put the pre-printed sheet with the name of your chosen party in your envelope and since you only get to vote for one party, your envelope should only contain one sheet. The height of excitement so far has been spotting envelopes with two sheets.

Am done with lunch and will now have dessert before I head back.

Fascinated by security features

The most significant difference between the old passport and the new one is the addition of a page detailing all the security features.

Some of the security features can be observed by looking at the information page from different angles. Was tilting my passport around while standing and waiting for the train yesterday when a Jehovah's witness approached, handed me a pamphlet and wished me luck(?).

Other features require that you hold the information page up to a light source. Took care of that with a flashlight this morning.

Now I just need a UV-light source...

Old passport, meet new passport

Picked up the new passport yesterday morning.

Had forgotten that you have the option to keep the old one. The rest of my old passports are back in Manila. I think it's fun to look at how both the passports and I have changed over the years.

The day that I have longed for has arrived!

I'm finally out of Disney plasters, so I can start using the Mumin ones.

Why is a grown woman using children's bandages, you ask...well, I didn't get a lot of wounds as a child and I don't remember Mumsy ever stocking kiddie plasters and certainly never Mumin ones.

My first sighting of a big name politician!

Feminist initiative co-founder Gudrun Schyman speaking at the corner of Klarabergsgatan and Drottninggatan as part of the EU election campaign.

Incidentally, just discovered today that I can zoom in on a specific part of a photo taken with the phone camera and then send that magnified part to the blog. Have wanted to do that a number of times, but never knew that I actually could. This is the second indication that someone should have bothered to read the manual.

Odds and ends that came with my magazine

Coupon for McDonald's Salad Shaker
I heart their ad agency (check out their Svenglish Happy Meal ad). The words in the ads for this product are shaken/jumbled which makes me think of the e-mail forward about how we'll be able to read a jumbled word as long as the first and last letters are correct. The salad costs 35 which works out quite nicely, since the mag also costs 35.

Panty liner samples
Apparently "1 out of 4 women experience urine leakage at some point in their lives." Is that the original purpose of panty liners?

The Wedding Guide
Stockholm yellow/pink pages for wedding-related services

Was amused when this fell out of the magazine along with the urine leakage thing. Childish, I know.

Sample of day cream with collagen re-plumper from L'Oreal

Farewell old passport!

Did a doubletake when I saw that I'd received an SMS from "The Police" on Monday. Turns out my passport was ready.

That was quick! It was supposed to take about a week and I only applied late last Thursday.

Anyway, I'm off to pick up the new passport.
