Just like home

Magnum was recently launched in The Philippines with loads of social media hype and even a Phillywood-style premiere (methinks that last part was overkill). When I saw a 2-for-1 sale at the nearby grocery, I figured why not.

For obvious reasons, most things cost more in Sweden than they do in The Philippines, so I'm amused by the fact that I paid about PHP 44 for this and it came in a box whereas back home, it retails for PHP 50 to 60 and comes in a regular wrapper. Let's face it, that box is an additional expense although the wrapper is probably better for the environment.

Talk about generous serving size

A new food court opened nearby. Was there with a friend yesterday and got a Thai Special Combo. The Pad Thai was great and I wanted to eat it all up, but I was way too full.

Today, The Big Niece, the SIL and the Brother had lunch there and brought me some take-out. Again, huuuge serving.

I'll be moving next week and the new apartment will just be a few steps away from that food court. If I get take-out, there'll be enough for 2 to 3 servings. The savings! :)

Mystery

Spotted this close to the tree where I saw a bra hanging a while back. Don't know if it's the same one or if the area mysteriously attracts bras. Or perhaps underwear in general. The SIL also saw boxers hanging from a tree a bit farther up the street.

In Arvika for my research project

The hotel room has a theme.

Thanks Karolinska!

We sometimes receive incentives to answer course evaluations. Usually they do raffles and a few months ago, I got a gift card worth SEK300 for an online bookstore. For this survey, everyone received vouchers for 2 movie tickets (even comes with the school logo!). The Big Niece and I will be redeeming these tomorrow when we watch Lorax.

Whimsical

They recently renovated the lobby of the main lecture building and this is one of the new additions that caught my eye.

Is it supposed to do that?

The gas tanks on campus make me a bit nervous. I hear a whooshing sound when I go past them and wonder if they're leaking. That huge chunk of ice outside the nitrogen tank isn't exactly comforting.

Have visited this store many times before

...but I didn't realize until today that they have 3 Ben&Jerry's freezers and the store isn't even that big. When I looked up, I spotted 4 sales achievement plaques above the freezers. One of them was from 2008, so they must have been there a while, just hadn't noticed before.

Marshmallow cookies

Bought a bag of marshmallows to snack on, but since the pieces turned out to be stuck together in a gooey mess, I decided to bake with them instead.

Inspired by the marsmallow cookie The Big Niece ordered when we were at a café last Saturday, I searched for a recipe, but ultimately ended up using a chocolate cookie recipe. I just omitted the chocolate chips and added about half a cup of sliced marshmallows. Of course, you can use mini marshmallows if you want to give this a try.

I really liked the caramelized bits.

People are going to think something is wrong with me

Am sitting alone on the train and need to fix Rapunzel's hair to get her camera-ready for a special mission with The Big Niece, whom I'll rendezvous with in the city.

Brunch at Cafe Sirap

Have been meaning to go there for a while now, but have never quite gotten around to it. Passed the place yesterday, but it was minutes from closing...they're only open until 1600 on weekdays.

They've got generous servings. I think that was an entire pack of bacon and I'm sure my arteries thank me for leaving most of it behind. They're rather stingy on the toast though --- just one piece --- and yet they give you butter, jam and cream cheese to spread on it. BTW, I love individual packets!

The bacon was too salty, but then I prefer my bacon with honey. The sides and the bottom of the pancake were a bit too tough. Overall, the food was good enough. Could make the same at home, but it's nice to have this option.

The best semla in town

A poll on Arla's site crowned Ritorno's semlor the best in Stockholm, so of course I had to try one. Yes, it was delish, but not neccessarily so much better than their competitors.

Crossing my fingers

The smoothie cancels out all the unhealthiness for sure.

Still alive

Have mostly been cooped up at home, working with spreadsheets and waiting for the ethics committee to approve the research project.

Took this photo when I was out running errands on Tuesday.
